Online Construction Courses

If you have been searching for an online construction courses it is likely you’ve drawn a blank? Although the number of colleges and universities offering courses via distance learning generally has grown over the past few years the options of studying for an industry recognised construction qualification are still limited.

Study Link lists UK Universities offering construction degrees via distance learning but these are all specialised postgraduate Masters Degree (MSc) courses and probably not what you are looking for?

The popular NEBOSH health and safety certificates and diplomas are available to study online although you will need to sit an actual exam at the end of it.  (If you’re interested in doing this course there are many providers to choose from but The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is perhaps the best know and most trusted)?

At present you can not get a construction related HNC/HND or degree via distance learning.  This isn’t to say there are not construction courses available via distance learning, there are, just that they are likely not suitable for your needs.

For instance, UK Distance Learning offer a range of online BTEC Level 3 courses including a BTEC Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Construction and BTEC Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Surveying.

These courses are, on the face of it, equivalent to the same course you would do at your local college and are approved by Edexcel. This is not to say, however, that they are the same courses you would do at a regular college, they are not.

Our Construction course is a customised award which has been approved by Edexcel. It will not be classed as a full qualification. Our courses are theoretical knowledge courses only. Colleges tend to have work shops and be more hands on to gain a full qualification over 2-3 years.
UK Distance Learning

There are countless other examples of distance learning courses which, in some cases, may prove to be a waste of time and money.

The qualification may look good on your CV; and you’ll be very unfortunate if don’t learn something along the way. But don’t be surprised if a potential employer disregards these kind of courses as something just about anyone could attain?

There really is, as yet, no real substitute for traditional class based learning. Not only do you enjoy the advantage of direct face to face tuition, you also benefit from the combined contribution and shared knowledge of your fellow students – something that online learning will never be able to offer.
