The Construction Skills Card Scheme was introduced as a way for main contractors to ensure they only have workers on site who have satisfied a minimum standard of Health & Safety awareness relevant to their job role.
For skilled roles, the card scheme is also used to certify that you have completed the relevant NVQ for that job or that you are enrolled on a recognised apprenticeship. There are also cards for management and those with a professional qualification.
A Skills Card is not a qualification in itself and there is no legal requirement to obtain one. However, if you want to work on a construction site in the UK it is almost certain that you will be required to have one.
This is a basic guide about the various cards available and how to get one. For up to date definitive information we recommend you visit the official CSCS website at cscs.uk.com
