Proposed New College for HS2

Construction of HS2, the new high-speed rail link, is expected to create an unprecedented demand for specialist construction workers and engineers and there are simply not enough people qualified in the UK to meet this requirement.

As a measure to help address this problem it’s been announced that a new college is to be created to provide the necessary training.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills say:

…the college will have cutting-edge technology and use state-of-the-art equipment to provide training courses for the specific needs of the rail project, which is expected to generate more than 2,000 apprenticeships.

The college is expected to open in 2017 although there are no details yet as to where the college will be located or, indeed, what courses will be available.
