The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have developed a new qualification to recognise expertise in building information modelling (BIM).
The RICS’ BIM Manager Certification will be open to surveyors who have already gained some experience in building information modelling and has been introduced in response to a demand for a means of accessing competence in this new field.
Those applying for the new qualification will need to submit a career history, CPD summaries and a case study which details their involvement, knowledge and understanding of the BIM process.
Competency must also be demonstrated in three key areas including the initiation process and integration and two other optional competencies covering both commercial and technical abilities.
Eligibility
- 5 years experience in a relevant sector
- Membership or Associate Membership of RICS or a recognised professional qualification
- 12 months practical BIM experience
There will be a fee for initial assessment of £200 + vat for RICS members (£300 + vat for non members) and annual subscription of £100 = vat for RICS members (£175 for non members).
There will also be a commitment to complete a minimum of 5 hours BIM related continuous personal development (CPD) annually and
recertification every 3 years.
